To Catch A Thief

Recently I took a job with a storage company in Honolulu. It's been a pretty good gig so far because the job isn't very hard and they seem to like me well enough. Another big perk is the people are very cool and easy to get along with.

In the past couple weeks one of the managers at one of our other locations got hurt on his motorcycle and I was asked to fill in for him a little bit. I was very excited to get a chance to work at some of the other stores and my manager told me they need help getting organized. Nothing could have prepared me for the mess I walked into.

When I got to the other store I could barely speak for the first 2 hours because I was sincerely baffled at the disorganized cluster fuck I just walked into. After a couple hours of bewilderment I finally took the reigns and started changing things, I was surprisingly well received.

The next day I came in and was asked to take some money to the bank for a deposit when I noticed something a little strange with some of the paperwork for the previous deposits from April. With some creative organization and a curiosity that only I seem to possess I managed to discover that 6 days of deposits were never taken to the bank and on top of all that...the cash was missing from them.

After notifying my manager about the discrepancy I went to work investigating the missing money. As it turns out I came upon evidence that the person who I was filling in for had stolen over two thousand dollars in cash and tried to cover it up. He might have gotten away with it too if it wasn't for this meddling kid!

It's pretty much solidified that I will be the new manager at that store which is great for me because, hey I need the money. Above all else though, I have this deep satisfaction that for the first time I caught the thief instead of being the thief. Of course had I been the thief I would have gotten away with it, meddling kids or not.
